All About Me!

This postcard literally sells a person. The picture of a person, their bio, and personalized design elements to it. This is the most personalized type of professional graphic that can be made. A boss would be incredibly impressed with something such as this when combined with other examples of work, especially in the graphic design and public relations field. As a stand-alone bio, this may come off a little too confident or cocky as some may say but when combined with a strong resume and impressive interview, this just may be the cherry that tops off the secured job or career path. The skills that go into the creation of this project are very prominent requirements for future employers. The writing and editing skills that go into the coming of the bio itself can be like no other. Then the skills used to create the layout such as picture placement and text wrap can help in the graphic design field. This shows the understanding of a design layout, knowing the design rules and which rules can be “broken”. Silhouetting a picture is something that takes patience and practice so that alone exemplifies a ton of skills. This is also a strength to have for the design and public relations field.
Blue is a visually strong color. It is associated daily with depth. At first glance, outgoing personalities can be stereotyped as having no depth. Many people believe that outgoing people put all of themselves at the forefront but that isn’t always true. The deeper blue in this postcard is meant to represent that. Blue is often times seen as a masculine color. As a company made to empower women entrepreneurs, it just felt like the perfect option. This was to represent that anything a man does, a woman can too. This is also to represent the strength that is built into a woman. In corporate America, blue is actually the preferred logo color. Envision the future of “B” was a huge portion of this layout. As the CEO of “B”, growing with the business is the ideal goal. The vision for this company was for it to have a very strong energy to it and blue gives that confident aura to the project.
Of course, the most important part of this assignment is the person. That is why the name should always be the most prominent.  Whether that be with loud colors, loud font or loud font size, make it happen. For the postcard below, color and size were the two answers for that design hierarchy issue. Most people notice the first letter of a name. It can be a defining factor especially if the initials are a nickname of some sort. That can be shown they're the design. If the nickname is an alternative way for the person to be viewed, making the letter that makes up the name bigger can show that. After that, putting a face to the name is extremely important. That way the person viewing the postcard doesn’t connect the name to anything else. The silhouetted picture is a visual representation of the person. This is a visual of the bio on that very piece of paper or screen. The bio and the graphic or picture of the person should be on the same level to show the connection. This will keep in the reader’s mind that written bio is about the person next to it. Having one higher than the other can make the reader believe that one is more important than the other but the key thing to note is to is that they are the same. They need to understand that the skill to present one’s self in both formats is present. Employers want to know that both verbal/face to face and graphic skill is there.
Using InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator in one project is definitely pure talent. That is the reason for using all three in the postcard. Straight up, this likes the holy trinity. Knowing how to use all three shows the level of experience used to make that project. Beginner tends to use one program and master it before moving onto another one but using all three shows comfortability. InDesign puts all the knowledge of design layout on display. Photoshop means there is knowledge of photo editing and how to “fix” or enhance a photo. Illustrator helps to display a level of creativity unlike any other. This shows how important it is to know how to make visions or dreams come to life if they aren’t already created.
